About Angel Benson.
As far as my memory reaches, I have always had a pencil in my hand or paint at my fingertips. I have always kept myself interested in all of my surroundings, such as artificial and natural spaces or the habitats of ants.
In these pandemic times I have approached my art, trying to express how my feelings can be immersed, feeling surrounded and present.
When I was a teenager I almost died by drowning, and since this time I consider the appreciation of the beauty in the wild, as a certain stimulant of positive emotions that makes you feel happy.
For the longest time, my maximum inspiration comes from nature, its aesthetics, its elements and its transformation. That inspiration took me to art school, where I received my Bachelor's of Architecture which then guided me to teach art and architecture at several Universities in Tijuana, Mexico.
As an artist, educator and architect of Mexican origins I have exhibited my artwork since 1994 in both solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, Australia and the USA. In Mexico I received a state award for fine art in 1997, in the category of “Artist with Trajectory” with participatory art.
I now reside in Melbourne Australia, where I take the daily walk to my studio. Definitely, the experience of being a Mexican migrant to this country, Australia, has shaped my emotional and conceptual approach to my art.
